Meet Your Teacher

I'm Rebecca, the founder of SensLearn English.
For me, learning English is about much more than grammar and vocabulary. It's about building confidence, opening doors to new opportunities, and helping people connect with others. Whether you're preparing for an exam, improving your English for work, supporting your child, or learning simply for enjoyment, every learner has their own story, goals, and reasons for learning. That's why I believe lessons should be just as individual as the people taking them.
Over the past twenty years, I have had the privilege of teaching learners of all ages and backgrounds in the United States of America, Germany, Australia, and Switzerland. Along the way, I've worked with children taking their very first steps in English, people of all ages preparing for exams, adults returning to learning after many years, professionals developing their communication skills, and teachers looking to grow in their own careers. Each learner has taught me something new. These experiences have shaped the teacher I am today and continue to inspire the way I teach.
My Journey
My English-teaching journey has taken me across three continents and a wide variety of educational settings.
I began my studies in the United States, earning an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts before completing a Bachelor's degree in German Studies. At that point, I wasn't entirely sure which direction my career would take. Then I had the opportunity to teach a small group of ESL learners. From the moment I sat down with that handful of learners, I knew I had found what I wanted to do. Teaching felt like where I belonged, and more than twenty years later, I still feel exactly the same way.
I was then awarded a Fulbright Scholarship as an English Teaching Assistant, which took me to Berlin, Germany. What began as a one-year scholarship became many years of teaching and professional development. During my time in Berlin, I completed my Master's degree in English Language, Literature and Culture, gained my CELTA qualification, and taught learners of all ages and proficiency levels in a wide range of educational settings.
My journey then continued to Australia, where I further developed both as a teacher and as a teacher educator. I completed the DELTA qualification, trained as a CELTA teacher trainer, worked as an IELTS examiner, and served as a Head Teacher, mentoring and supporting new teachers. I also delivered teacher training courses and spent many years as a Cambridge Coordinator, supporting both learners and teachers in achieving their goals.
In 2020, my family and I moved to Switzerland. Although we originally expected to stay for only two years, life had other plans. Düdingen has become our home, and over the years we have become part of the local community.
Today, I bring together more than twenty years of international teaching experience from the United States, Germany, Australia, and Switzerland. Every learner, every classroom, and every country has shaped the way I teach today. Those experiences continue to guide me as I begin this new chapter with SensLearn English, offering high-quality, personalised English lessons to learners here in Düdingen.
My Teaching Philosophy
I see my role not simply as explaining English, but as guiding learners as they discover the language for themselves.
Every learner arrives with different strengths, experiences, and goals. Some need clear explanations and structure; others build confidence through conversation, practice, and encouragement. My aim is always to create lessons that are personal, practical, and enjoyable, where learners feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and developing confidence step by step.
One of the greatest rewards of teaching is seeing the moment when something suddenly makes sense: the smile, the spark of recognition, and the quiet confidence that follows. Those moments remind me why I chose this profession.
Learning should never feel intimidating. It should be challenging, engaging, and enjoyable, with steady progress that learners can see and feel.
Looking Ahead
Whether you're taking your first steps in English, preparing for an important exam, supporting your child, or simply looking to feel more confident communicating in English, I'd be delighted to help you on your learning journey. I look forward to welcoming you to SensLearn English.
